At the end of my residency, I had the pleasure of taking part in teaching an encaustic retreat for a whole weekend. It was such a fun time exploring the medium of wax with my fellow instructors and students. I even got a chance to teach some elements of sculpting with wax! Here is a little video of the time we spent working and learning together.

Thanks to my receiving the 2011 Beckmann Emerging Artist Fellowship from the Arts Council of Indianapolis, I will be heading to Leavenworth, Washington in March for a two-week artist residency. I couldn’t be more excited to spend this time in the beautiful surroundings of the area soaking up inspiration from nature and focusing on a new body of work. But that’s not all! Part of my time there will be spent teaching and presenting at an encaustic retreat with three other artists. So, if you will be in the vicinity (about two hours from Seattle) in March, sign up for a great weekend here.

I want to be an artist when I grow up. I quit my job to try it. I will chronicle the results here.
