This morning I was nearly knocked out of my chair as I browsed Etsy, having a surprisingly strong reaction to the work of Brooklyn artist Joetta Maue. Hers is an art form that never would have occurred to me: hand embroidered text on repurposed linens.

And who hasn’t felt that way before?

I find these to be delicate and beautiful.

It’s as if the artist is channeling the thoughts of the person who created the original work. This last might be my favorite:

I like to imagine the first artist whose hands touched these pieces, pining, dwelling over thoughts, or sitting contentedly with fingers busy working the needle.

You can see much more of Joetta Maue’s splendid work, including a large-scale installation at her website.

What artwork knocks you off your feet?
