I’m a recent fan of the work of Yuriko Yamaguchi, but I’m a big one. When I first came across her sculptures and installations, I was simply in awe.

I love her use of wire armatures to suspend various resin shapes. This is the kind of work I aspire to make one day! Until then, I will continue to be inspired by Yuriko Yamaguchi’s amazing talent. See much more here.

Logic, ice sculpture by Nicole Dextras

Nicole Dextras creates large-scale typographical ice sculpture installations as commentary on various settings and environments. I like this one in particular, juxtaposing the word “logic” with the stump of what was surely once a breathtaking tree.

After stumbling upon this artwork this morning, I realized how little work and inspiration I have shared on this site in the past few months. I apologize for my silence. 2011 was a big year: I embarked on my first artist residency, exhibited two solo shows, and fulfilled my duties as the 2011 Emerging Artist Fellow. And in news that most likely explains the bulk of the reason for my lack of posts recently, I have spent much of 2011 preparing mind, heart, and body for the welcoming of my first child in about a month. 2012 is bound to be another amazing year, both personally and for my artwork. I cannot wait to see how this new stage of life manifests itself creatively. Thanks for sticking with me, and look for more soon!

If you have wondered why I have been strangely silent on this blog lately, I can tell you why. Friday my new show opens in the Harrison Center‘s City Gallery! I have been too busy to pop in here with regular inspiration and updates on the progress of my work. This show was a race to the finish (being my second solo show in four months!), but I am pleased with the outcome. I will be in the gallery all evening Friday for the opening, 6-9pm. I hope you will stop by and say hi, check out the work, and see Kyle Ragsdale’s show in main gallery as well.

Did you know I am offering encaustic classes through the new Lawrence Art Center? The first class is this weekend, October 16, 3-5pm. This is amazing. I love art, in all its many forms. This one left me very inspired.

Tonight is the second annual FOOD CON exhibition at the Harrison Center. It also happens to be Open Studio Night, so all the artist studios will be open, including mine! The opening runs from 5-9pm. Last year this even was amazing, so I highly recommend coming out. There will be lots of food and lots of art! Hope to see you there.

I want to say a big “thank you” to everyone who came out see my show that opened at the Earth House on Friday.  It was so great to see many familiar faces, as well as some new ones. The show will be up until August 29, so you still have a chance to see the work if you weren’t able to come out Friday.

I received my first ever press review for the show (this is a big deal to me!). You can check out the NUVO review here, if you are interested. Next week I will share more images, including photos of the sculptural half of the show.

Above is a piece from my very first solo exhibition, which opens this Friday at the Earth House Collective in Indianapolis. I pushed to the last minute to complete the show, fourteen pieces in all.

In total the show consists of seven “paintings” (like those above) and seven sculptural works. All the artwork is framed in salvaged redwood frames (my dad saved it from a dumpster!) handmade by my two awesome parents.

The show opens Friday with a reception from 5-9pm. I would love to see you there! The Earth House is easy to find on the corner of New York and East Street downtown (look for the old church building.). I am nervous about the show and very excited.

Here is what I’ve been hard at work on the past few weeks. I’m completing a whole new body of work for my very first solo exhibition! The show opens August 5 at the Earth House in Indianapolis. I couldn’t be happier with the location for my first solo show.

The work is slowly coming along. I will be featuring fifteen new pieces, with an even mixture of encaustic paintings and hanging sculptures. I am sticking to simple materials: beeswax, paper, string, and dirt. I can’t wait to show you more, but for now, I hope you enjoy this little taste!
